Girl Scout Troop 14428 meets Mayor Parker, BARCs pets of the week
Girl Scout Troop 14428 meets Houston mayor Annise Parker and Donner, one of the Mayor's BARC Pets of the Week.
Houston Girl Scout Troop 14428 posed with Mayor Annise Parker and two pets up for adoption at the city of Houston's BARC animal shelter and adoption center for the Mayor's BARC Pets of the Week.
"We are thrilled that the Girl Scout troop joined the mayor to snap a couple of photos with BARC's pets," Chris Newport, a BARC spokesman, said in a city press release. "We enjoyed meeting such a great group of girls and we look forward to working with them as they come out to BARC and volunteer in the future."
Ten girls from the troop posed for the photo, which featured a cat named Donner and a dog named Penelope.
"The girls were so excited to be involved in the Mayor's BARC Pets of the Week photo shoot," troop leader Teresa Goebel said in the release. "They can't wait to visit BARC and support these wonderful animals by volunteering their time to help make sure each dog and cat at the shelter finds a forever home."
Donner was adopted shortly after the photo shoot but Penelope, an eight-month old Dachshund Mix, is still up for adoption.
