Deadline for magnet school applications is Jan. 11
The Houston Independent School District has announced that the deadline for magnet school applications is Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
Parents who want their children to attend particular campuses must apply by the deadline to guarantee first-round consideration, according to a press release.
According to Dave Wheat, assistant superintendent of school choice, parents should plan to apply to multiple schools and evaluate each student's unique needs, talents and interests.
"We had more than 3,000 people show up to our Magnet Open House on Nov. 3," said Wheat in the release. "It was our biggest ever. These are popular, high-demand programs. Schools are still giving tours, so it's not too late for parents to learn more about the campuses that interest them."
Wheat added that each of the applications lists the supporting documentation required to complete the forms.
Applications received after Jan. 11 will only be accepted on a space-available basis. Patrons are reminded that HISD will be closed the last full week of December and the first week of January.
The Houston Independent School District is at 4400 W. 18th St., Houston.
