Houston Fire Department offers free visual smoke detectors
The Houston Fire Department announced that free visual smoke detectors are being offered to citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing who reside in the Greater Houston Metropolitan area.
According to a department release, the alarms can be installed at homes by members of the Houston Fire Department or can be picked up by appointment at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center, 1475 W. Gray St., Suite 180, Houston.
Distribution of the free alarms will continue while supplies last.
The initiative is sponsored by the Houston Fire Department, the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, a division of the Department of Neighborhoods, FEMA and community partners.
