Reagan High School takes part in academics competition
Students from John H. Reagan High School recently took part in the 2011-12 UIL Academics competition held Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Young Women's College Preparatory Academy in Houston.
Reagan High School won honors in the events of calculator applications, computer science, literary criticism, mathematics, number sense and social studies.
The calculator applications, mathematics and number sense team won first place thanks to the combined efforts of Dante Vela, Argenis Uresti, Giovanni Gama, John Delgado and Sophie Sewall. John Delgado and Daniel Rivera partnered up to earn first place in computer science. First place was also taken in literary criticism by Gabriela Salcedo in the individuals category. Rocio Zuniga and Sophie Marek led the social studies team in winning another first place prize.
Zuniga earned second place in accounting. Sophie and Carol Hernandez won the outstanding finalist award in current issues and events. Jose Jimenez won second place in persuasive speaking.
Overall, Reagan High School finished second to Westside High School.
