High school football: Houston Sharpstown vs. Houston Waltrip, preview
Unbeaten through two games, the Houston Sharpstown High School football team will put its perfect record on the line when it battles Houston Waltrip on Thursday, Sept. 13 in a 7 p.m. district game at Butler Stadium.
Sharpstown edged Houston Westbury 25-19 on Thursday, Sept. 6 behind 239 yards of offense. Jerrod Taylor scored a pair of rushing touchdowns while Kiemond Lee caught two touchdown passes from Jarett Egenti.
Egenti completed six of his 17 passes for 84 yards and Taylor rushed for 169 yards. Westbury finished with 219 yards of offense but hurt itself with six turnovers, including four fumbles.
The Rams are 1-0 after opening their season with a 41-34 win over Pasadena on Saturday, Sept. 8. Waltrip rolled up 403 yards and was paced by the effort of quarterback Christian Rodriguez, who threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns.
Jimmy Mouton rushed for 149 yards and one touchdown. Chris Maloney caught two touchdown passes.
Waltrip will play Houston Austin on Thursday, Sept. 20 and will play at Houston Lee on Thursday, Sept. 27. The Rams will play host to Houston Davis on Friday, Oct. 12. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.
Sharpstown will play at Houston Davis on Thursday, Sept. 20 and will play host to Houston North Forest on Saturday, Sept. 29.
