Exercise and fitness classes offered at libraries
Houston area libraries are offering exercise and fitness classes to the public.
Yoga, aerobics and much more will be offered. Participants are advised to consult with their physician before starting any of the classes.
Laughter yoga classes will be given from noon to 1 p.m. at the Central Library, located at 500 McKinney St., in Heights, and 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Heights Neighborhood Library, located at 1302 Heights Blvd. Classes will be taught by Lainie Diamond. Laughter yoga involves breathing and movement exercises. Its body, mind and movement exercises are based on scientific facts for breathing.
Other classes will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Central Library and 10:30-11:30 Saturdays at HPL Express Discovery Green, located at 1500 McKinney St. This class is designed for those who would like to work on weight management, muscle toning, stress relief or total health. This yoga class can be adapted to any fitness level.
Stress buster yoga will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Mondays at the Robinson-Westchase Neighborhood Library, located at 3223 Wilcrest Drive, from 1-2 p.m. at the Central Library and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Young Neighborhood Library, located at 5260 Griggs Road. Sharon Hughes is the instructor.
Stress relief and relaxation classes will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays at Central Library. The class will help participants to unwind in body and mind. A trained instructor will demonstrate and help everyone learn the poses and more about yoga. Yoga mats will be provided.
