World Youth Foundation to hold appreciation brunch
The World Youth Foundation's annual Empowering Youth Initiative-Seeds of Gratitude Appreciation Brunch is slated for July 21.
The brunch will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21 at the Brady's Landing Restaurant, 8505 Cypress St., Houston. Empowering Youth Initiative is a program that cultivates future leaders and builds better decisions-makers by equipping them with resources such as critical thinking tools, skill building and the ability to do strategic planning.
This year the organization will honor nine Houston trailblazers for their dedication to helping youth. Honorees are Garnet F. Coleman, Texas House of Representatives; Yolanda Hubbard, service manager, Oak Farms Dairy; James Harris, director of supplier diversity, HEB; Willie Iles, government and community relations national director, Boy Scouts of America; Debra Lathan, assistant director, Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Houston; Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee, U.S. House of Representatives, District 13; Rick Noriega, president of AVANCE; Lisa Stillwell, president, Celebrating You; Sherif Mohamed, P.E., and Kefelegne Tesfaye, P.E., principals, United Engineers; and the National Forum of Black Public Administrators.
Families interested in registering their youth for the free eight-month series may do so at the brunch. The WYF is a national, nonprofit organization headquartered in Houston. Its mission is to enhance the growth and character of all youth, regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental handicap or economic background.
