Children At Risk to hold law symposium

Children At Risk will hold a law symposium from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 10 at Fulbright Tower Auditorium.

Legislators, attorneys and other experts will explore the issues of juvenile justice and juvenile mental health, education, immigration and human trafficking. Speakers will include Cherie Townsend, executive director of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; Deborah Fowler, deputy director of Texas Appleseed; Dustin Rynders, supervising attorney with Disability Rights Texas; and Sarah Guidry, interim executive director of the Earl Carl Institute at Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

The event will also feature a discussion on immigration by Claudia Folker, author of "The Immigrant Advantage," and a talk regarding the decriminalization of child trafficking victims from Ann Johnson.

The symposium costs $90 for attorneys, $50 for nonprofit or government attorneys and non-attorney professionals and $20 for students. The price includes lunch.

Fulbright Tower Auditorium is located at 1301 McKinney St. in Houston.
