HCC earns top ranking in awarding associate degrees
Houston Community College was recently named the No. 1 institution in Texas for awarding associate degrees.
According to a press release, Community College Weekly ranked HCC eighth nationally for all institutions awarding the degrees and second among two-year schools.
The release also noted that the Community College Weekly report counted 3,606 associate degrees awarded by HCC for the 2011-2012 academic year, a jump of more than 300 from 2010-2011.
Also, HCC ranked high on a list of schools awarding degrees to students of color. Across the curriculum, HCC ranks eighth in awarding associate degrees to Asian-American students, ninth for African-American students and 10th for Hispanics.
