Independent Arts Collaborative to build new art complex
A new community art complex is under way for a 2015 opening.
The facility will be built and maintained by the Independent Arts Collaborative. The building will provide a centralized spot for a broad spectrum of Houston's leading and emerging arts and cultural organizations. Estimated cost for the complex is $25 million for the 59,000-square-foot structure.
The facility will offer visual and performance spaces, rehearsal and classroom areas and offices. When complete, the IAC will be located at 3400 Main St. and be self-sustaining from a variety of rental and other earned income streams. The location was selected as it will be across from the Ensemble/HCC Metro Rail Station and halfway between Houston's theater district and the museum district.
