Houston ISD wins for public relations
Houston ISD recently won the 2012 National School Public Relations Association Gold Medallion Award for its communication plan to raise awareness about the STAAR exams.
The award recognizes exceptional educational public relations programs. Houston ISD was chosen from 54 programs across the United States and Canada.
The district's plan is a multilingual, multimedia communication strategy to inform parents, students and the community about the new state-mandated STAAR exams and what they mean for students.
HISD partnered with local media, including Univision, to reach the community via live events, live interviews, weekly educational segments and a live phone bank during prime time.
The plan was selected for NSPRA's Gold Medallion Award after succeeding in the following categories: analysis and planning, communication and implementation, research and evaluation.
