Presbyterian School places high in world finals

A team of seventh-graders from Presbyterian School placed eighth in its division and problem at Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, which took place May 23-26 at Iowa State University.

According to a press release, Angelica Carrizal, Julian Castro, Lauren Childers, Katharine Juden, Abbey Rank, Emma Shea and Jessica Simon comprised the Presbyterian School team, which finished higher than 50 other teams in its division and problem, including teams from Mexico, India, South Korea, Kazakhstan and Canada.

The release noted that the team had been practicing for the world finals since September and worked on both spontaneous and long-term problems, the two categories of problems at the competition. Teams have an entire year to work out one long-term problem, the solution to which they present at the world finals, while only a few minutes are given to teams for solving spontaneous problems, which may be hands-on, verbal or both, according to the release.

Other activities and events the Presbyterian School team took part in at the finals were the creativity and international festivals, a float and banner parade and an awards ceremony.
