Police investigate fatal traffic accident at 1600 Gray

A Houston Public Works employee died on the job Thursday, May 31 at 1600 Gray.

Houston resident Charles J. Williams, 75, died after the vacuum pump truck he was operating rolled over him as he conducted maintenance on a sewer line just before 2:30 p.m., according to a Houston Police Department news release.

Police say Williams, a City of Houston Public Works and Engineering Department employee, was standing in front of the truck when it started to roll. He tried to stop the vehicle but tripped.

Medics pronounced Williams dead at the scene, according to the release.
