Lawndale's annual Big Show exhibition begins July 13
Lawndale Art Center has announced that the Big Show will begin its exhibition to the public on Friday, July 13.
This annual open-call, juried exhibition has become an important venue for emerging and underrepresented Houston-area artists, offering them exposure since its inception in 1986.
Formerly known as the East End Show, the Big Show is sponsored by the East End Progress Association.
Each year, Lawndale Art Center invites a guest juror to select from work submitted by artists living within 100 miles of Houston. Artists are invited to bring three works of art not previously shown in Houston to the art center. Their work is then juried on site for a chance of being included in the show. It also gives each artist an opportunity to win one of three cash prizes.
Artists are asked to deliver their three works to Lawndale between noon and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 28.
Works not selected for the exhibition should be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, July 2, or Wednesday, July 3.
The Big Show exhibition will run from July 13 to Aug. 11, with an opening reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 13.
Marco Antonini is the art center's director. Lawndale Art Center is located at 4912 Main St. in Houston.
