Man convicted in 1990 murder case
Investigators used DNA evidence to secure the conviction of a Texas inmate accused of 1990 of a deadly home invasion in the 9200 block of Lori Lane.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate Andre Jamal Sloan, 48, who is already serving a life sentence for a 1992 triple homicide, was convicted Friday, May 25 for his alleged part in the shooting death of Wistong Potes, according to a Harris County Sheriff's Office news release.
Investigators say on Aug. 30, almost 22 years ago, Sloan, along with several other suspects, broke into Potes's home, shot and killed him, raped and shot his wife Tamara, and fled the residence with stolen jewels, money and a vehicle.
Potes's wife, who was shot in the back of the head after being sexually assaulted, survived, only to be killed in a drive-by shooting a year later, according to the release.
Detectives continue to investigate this crime. Anyone with information about the identities of the other suspects involved is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
