Musician appreciates importance of the arts
“As a young musician I’m always so disappointed with how little people know about the arts,” said Meghan Faw, “Everybody talks about sports, and sports are good, but because of cuts there’s less and less of the arts. And, the arts do more than just help the body, they help your mind and soul. I wish there was more arts education in general and more people would get involved.”

Accomplishments: Placed fourth in state in National French Contest 2009; placed third in state in National Latin Exam 2009; 2011 Texas Region and All-State Orchestra member; finalist in the Fidelity Future Stage Competition 2010; Childrens’ Foundation for the Arts grant recipient; member of junior varsity volleyball team, member varsity swim team.
Favorite class: “English. Our teacher talks not just about English but philosophy and the great literature of all time.”
Favorite things to do after class: “Play violin, I do that a lot. I’m in a youth orchestra, a chamber ensemble and I’m in a group that goes gigging. We play at parties and weddings and sometimes restaurants and events that people host. I also like to play with my pets, I have two dogs and three cats and I like to read a lot.”
Favorite book: “Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green. I feel like it’s not the normal teenager book. It’s about dealing with yourself and other people and how to come in to your own.”

Favorite TV show: “I love ‘Glee.’ ”

Favorite movie: “Blaze of Glory, because it’s hilarious.”
Ambition: “I’m majoring in violin performance. After I get my undergraduate degree and get my graduate degree, then I want to play in a chamber group and then ultimately get my doctorate and teach violin.”
