Houston Heights Home & Garden Tour to hold weekend of events

The 2012 Houston Heights Home and Garden Tour and Candlelight Dinner and Auction will take place the weekend of April 13 through April 15.

The 2012 Candlelight Dinner and Auction will be held from 5-7 p.m. April 13. The event will feature an open bar, as well as live and silent auctions. The dinner and auction will take place at SPJST Lodge No. 88, located at 1435 Beall St., in Heights.

This year's featured artist will be Mexico-born, University of Houston-educated artist J. Antonio Farfan. His work can be found at www.jantoniofarfan.com.

This dinner and auction will be followed by the After Hours Party, featuring live music, dancing and a raffle.

Tickets for the Candlelight Dinner and Auction are $125 or $1,250 to reserve a table for 10. The event is limited to 500 guests.

The Houston Heights Home and Garden Tour will take place from noon to 6 p.m. April 14 and April 15. This year's tour features five historic homes and one recent construction. Featured homes and gardens include Purday/Coon Home, at 1109 Oxford St.; Mueller Home, at 941 Cortlandt St.; Tegtmeier Home, at 706 Cortlandt St.; Womble Home, at 515 Harvard St.; Fritsch Home, 1243 at Tulane St.; and Smith/Yeatts Home, at 531 W. 16th St.

Tickets for the tour cost $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. Tickets for individual homes cost $5 at each home, and blocks of 10 will be available for $175. Tickets are on sale now.

Tickets can be purchased at the Heights Fire Station, at 107 W. 12th St., or at Comerica Bank, at 548 W. 19th St. A shuttle from these locations to the homes on the tour will be available at these locations on the day of the event.

Proceeds from the events will benefit beautification, property and park maintenance, improvements and preservation and local education projects.
