Sunshine Review releases salary information of government officials
Sunshine Review, a nonprofit dedicated to government transparency, has released a report on state government salary to show how tax-payer money is being spent.
The report used data from public sector employees from 152 governments in eight states. Sunshine Review looked into benefits and perks that employees receive and, in Texas, the report found that 129 public sector employees make more than $150,000.
The top 22 salaries in the state total $3,812,636, and the number of positions earning in excess of $150,000 has grown statewide. In Harris County, 51 employees earn more than $150,000, with nine earning more than $200,000. Similarly, in the Houston ISD, 18 employees average $176,507 a year.
The report found that the top-paying jobs were related to law enforcement with other high-earning positions belonging to the medical field.
Sunshine Review focused on the largest cities, counties and school districts for its report. Information was gathered from existing sources and with the Freedom of Information Act.
