Houston woodcarvers to hold annual show in Heights
The Houston Area Woodcarvers Club will hold its 40th Annual Fall Show, Sale and Competition on Saturday, Sept. 24.
People who attend can see one-of-a-kind woodcarvings, watch the whittling contest and vote for their favorite carving. Carvings are judged on quality of carving and originality.
Judging categories include caricature, realistic, relief and chip carving. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, People's Choice, Judges' Choice, Pastor's Choice and Best Display Table. Visitors to the show select the winner of the People's Choice Award.
There will be an old-fashioned whittling contest for registered show participants at 1 p.m. Demonstrations of carving techniques will take place in the morning and afternoon. Carvings will be for sale by the individual artists.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church, located at 2025 West 11th St.
