Inner-city Boy Scouts get free physicals in Heights
Approximately 287 Boy Scouts in the Urban Scouting Division recently received free physicals.
The physicals were coordinated by the Harris County Medical Society (HCMS) and Houston Academy of Medicine and allowed the boys, many who could not afford it otherwise, to attend Boy Scout camp and play organized sports at school in the coming fall.
This is the 19th year HCMS has coordinated this event, which was made possible by volunteers consisting of HCMS physicians, medical students, nurse practitioner students, registered nurses and nursing students from the University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston and Texas Woman’s University.
The Urban Scouting Division of the Boy Scouts of America was established in 1987 to encourage at-risk boys to become involved in scouting, providing them with leadership skills and challenges in nature.
