HS baseball: Waltrip defeats Galveston Ball
Waltrip defeated Galveston Ball in high school baseball action Tuesday.
The Rams, 15-6-1 overall and 9-0-0 in district play, won the game, 2-1.
Moises Castillo was the winning pitcher, as he struck out 11 batters in seven innings.
Zechariah Lemond earned the save, going one inning and striking out two batters, allowing no hits.
Troy Thompson had the game tying hit in the top of the seventh and Van Wilhelm scored the winning run on a missed squeeze bunt and a mishandle of a throw by Ball.
Waltrip coach Jim Teel said, "Our shortstop (Cano) did not play. He is on crutches. He goes to the Orthopedic today. We don’t think it is broken, hopefully just a bad sprain. We will see. The kids never gave up and played hard, played good defense."
Colin Webb threw out a runner at the plate, when Ball had the bases loaded and tried to score on a fly out to end the sixth inning.
Waltrip will visit Yates on Friday at 7 p.m.
