Don't fall for phony Harris County jury service phone calls
Identity thieves have called Harris County residents in attempts to get their Social Security numbers under the guise of collecting the information for jury service purposes, District Clerk Chris Daniel warned today.
The thieves allegedly threaten the people they call for failing to report for jury service, according to a press release from the District Clerk's office.
"We have received calls in the past regarding this scheme, and we want to remind citizens to never give out any personal information on the telephone," Daniel said. "Our office advocates protecting the privacy of our citizens, and our jury room staff will never contact prospective jurors asking for Social Security numbers or any other sensitive information."
Daniel urged people not to give out personal information over the phone or by e-mail to anyone claiming to be with the judicial system.
Questions or concerns about jury service should be directed to the Harris County Jury Information Center at 713-755-6392 or the District Clerk Call Center at 713-755-7300. Daniel can be reached at cdaniel@hcdistrictclerk.com.
