Heights chamber elects 3 new members
The Greater Heights Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the election of three new members, Michelle "Mickey" Blake, Hazel Houghton and Kirby Janke, to the board of directors.
Blake, who joined the chamber in 2009, is the owner of Marketability, Inc. a vendor of promotional products.
She has more than 30 years of business experience, primarily in sales, marketing and personal development. Blake has served as president of the Women's Business Support Network, Houston Business Alliance, and was the recipient of the Woman of the Year award given by the Houston Federation of Women.
She has chaired the last two annual chamber gala committees and through her leadership these events have doubled in size and importance.
Hazel Houghton, owner of Houghton's Jewelers, operates the business with her son, Jay Houghton.
Houghton's specializes in fine jewelry and also buy gold and other precious metals from individuals which they resell.
Prior to opening the business in 1980, she was manager of the jewelry department at JC Penney in Northwest Mall.
Houghton attended Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas which is now The University of Texas – Pan American.
She is a member of the Jewelers of America and Texas Jewelers Association trade groups.
She joined the Chamber in 2007 and has actively participated in the chamber's annual gala.
Kirby Janke, is the general sales manager for Tommie Vaughn Motors.
Tommie Vaughn Motors is a founding member of the Greater Heights Area Chamber of Commerce.
Kirby has been involved in the family owned dealership since 2004.
He previously worked as the new vehicles sales and inventory manager and director of finance and insurance.
He is a graduate of Texas Tech University.
He he earned a bachelor of business administration degree.
Announcement of the new board members was made by Gary Van Rooyan, chairman of the board.
"The Chamber welcomes these outstanding professionals and successful entrepreneurs and looks forward to the many ideas and management skills they will add to the chamber's board of directors," said Van Rooyan.
The Greater Heights Area Chamber of Commerce serves more area businesses with informative speakers; programs and business-after-hours networking events.
Economic luncheon set
They will host noted economist Barton Smith, speaking on Houston's economy, the direction of the real estate market, and the overall outlook for commerce at a lunch on Jan. 27.
The Greater Heights Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Forecast Luncheon will be 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m Jan. 27 at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow Hotel.
