Lights in the Heights requests starting to roll in
The 2011 edition of Lights in the Heights is set for this Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Woodland Heights. And while this year is somewhat different being on three streets (Omar, Highland and Bayland) instead of the usual two, what hasn't changed are the weeklong requests for volunteers and help.
Right now, organizers have what might just be one of the better problems to have, far more entertainers than porches. Woodland Heights Civic Association president Allison Hartzell reports a need for "big porches and/or yards/driveways for bigger bands." Specifically, organizers are looking for homes for a middle school stage band, looking to play contemporary songs for a 45 minute to one hour set, a country combo and a local rock band.
She's also called out these blocks who right now have no or only one porch donated: 1100 Bayland, 1000 Highland and 800 Omar.
If you can help or have any questions, e-mail Allison at email@example.com.
Also, volunteers are being requested to help decorate the Norhill Esplanade. Volunteers will be installing lights in the trees from 4-6:30 p.m. tonight and Wednesday or however long volunteers can stay. Call Charles Morales at 832-309-9287 or just show up.
