Holiday Home Tour kicks off Friday
The Houston Heights Association's Holiday Home Tour kicks off Friday, and organizers have lined up six beautiful homes for the route. All of the homes will be open from 6-9 p.m. Friday and 3-9 p.m. Saturday.
Homes on tour are:
Sam J. Blackman Home, 729 Rutland
The Modern Craftsman, 1222 Allston
The Wade Home, 1432 Tulane
The Classic Queen Anne, 1629 Cortlandt
The Batterson Home, 1439 Harvard
Batterson-Drouin Home, 1445 Harvard
Photos and descriptions of the homes are all available at www.houstonheights.org/holidayhometour.htm. That website also has plenty of information on tickets, shuttle buses and other happenings (as will this space over the next day or so).
A quick rundown though is that advance tickets are $20 and will be available online at www.houstonheights.org and at several area locations including Heights Antiques on Yale, Buchanan's Native Plants, Bliss on 19th, The Artful Corner, Phil's Texas Barbecue and Waldo's Coffee House. Tickets purchased on Tour days are $25 for all six homes or $5 for each individual home and will be available at the Heights Fire Station at 107 W. 12th and Yale Streets, and at each home tour home. Tickets purchased online may be picked up at the will-call booth at the Fire Station during the tour.
I will say that this is a pretty impressive line up. I've been around this neighborhood long enough to remember when (a) there was no Holiday Home Tour and (b) when it was a poorly planned and little-publicized afterthought. How far we've come. This is now a first-class tour every bit on par with the spring home tour, and with an added bonus of being part of a Houston Heights-wide celebration that includes Holiday on 19th, Mistletoe Madness, the Sixth Annual Heights Holiday Market and many, many others.
Quite simply, if you can't find anything to do in the Heights this weekend, then you not only are not trying, you just simply are not in the Heights.
