Heights Woman's Club to hold fourth annual Victorian Tea
The Houston Heights Woman's Club will hold its fourth annual Victorian Tea at its clubhouse, 1846 Harvard, from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12.
The Victorian Tea is a unique offering in the Heights every year, as the Woman's Club uses the form of a classic English tea reception to teach everything from manners to history, and all in a setting of high fun. Each table in the clubhouse will be set with a club member's own china, crystal, silver, linens and flowers, with many members, and some guests, dressed in Victorian costume. Though this last part, the club stresses, is not required. Whatever you do, don't not go to this because you don't want to dress up.
On the menu will be scones, tea sandwiches, lady fingers and cookies, as well as tea served in beautiful china teapots.
Proceeds from the event will go to the general maintenance and upkeep of the club building, built in 1912 on land donated to the club by Mrs. Helen Cooley, wife of one of the founders of the Houston Heights.
Tickets are $25 apiece, and there is limited seating, so the club members, like in the previous three editions, expect a sellout. Hence, don't delay. You can help out by buying your ticket(s) no later than Dec. 6. To do so, visit the club's website at www.houstonheightswomansclub.com. If instead, you'd like to just pay by check, this is no problem. Just mail the check, along with the names of everyone in your group (if you're purchasing more than one ticket) to
