Tour Olivewood Cemetery this Saturday
Houston's oldest African-American cemetery will be the place to be on Saturday, Oct. 30, as a tour of the 133-year-old Olivewood Cemetery takes place from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., as part of the Descendants of Olivewood second Annual Halloween Party.
Activities for the day include face painting, a Halloween costume contest, a mummy wrap game, and other family-friendly Halloween fun.
A Penny Drive will encourage guests to donate loose change that will go towards the Emergency Grave Recovery Project.
Many 19th century influential African-Americans were buried in the cemetery, including Reverend Elias Dibble, first minister of Trinity United Methodist Church; Reverend Wade H. Logan, also a minister of the church; and James Kyle, a blacksmith.
Olivewood Cemetery is located at 1300 Court St.
