Avenue Terrace affordable housing apartments open

published Apr. 25, 2011

Avenue Community Development Corp. recently held a grand opening for its Avenue Terrace Apartment Homes complex at 4004 Irvington in Houston.

Leasing is ahead of schedule and mostly complete at Avenue Terrace, the first phase in the transformation of the former FedEx Freight site into affordable housing. The 144 apartments range in size from one to three bedrooms. Monthly rates range from just under $300 to about $1,000 each month, depending on income levels. All units are Energy Star certified with water-efficient fixtures.

Avenue CDC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving Houston’s Washington Avenue and Near Northside community by developing affordable housing and economic opportunities.

In the last 20 years, Avenue CDC has helped revitalize the community by leveraging more than $58 million in investments, including the development of 97 single-family homes, 472 rental units and 140,000 square feet of commercial space. Avenue CDC provides free home-buyer education and counseling services to more than 600 families each year.
